Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks
Pick: Diamondbacks (-108)
Am I the only one who refuses to accept that the Diamondbacks are this bad? The D-backs consistently have sharp line movement to their side, so it leads me to believe that sharps are agreeing with me. Yesterday they threw Alex Young, a solid lefty, against a Rockies team who has a 53 WRC+ in the last week. This on top of their otherwise dwindling pitching.
But alas, the D-backs keep finding fun and exciting ways to lose. In the top of the 8th, catcher Carson Kelly just whiffed in a potential called strike three that would have ended the inning. Instead, the ball went to the backstop and gave the Rockies a 5-3 lead. In the 9th, the D-backs started to rally against Rockies closer Daniel Bard. However they could only muster one run and ended the game 1-14 with runners in scoring position. Unbelievable.
Final: 5-4 Rockies
Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals
Pick: Phillies F5 -0.5 (-105)
Did you think I was joking about never trusting the Phillies bullpen again? Only halfway…
We had a great matchup here forJake Arrieta, who is quietly pitching well in 2020. On the flip side Erick Fedde has not been as great as his sub-3.00 ERA suggests. He’s barely pitching into games, even when he’s pitching well. While this could be a pitch count thing, I think Washington just doesn’t trust him to pitch multiple turns through the order. His peripheral stats aren’t great and I think Washington knows it. Although Arrieta gave up a first inning run, JT Realmuto got us the win with this 3-run blast.
