Game Review
8-26-20
Chicago Cubs at Detroit Tigers
Pick: Tigers ML (+125)
Nothing can be easy, can it? This play was a fade of Jon Lester as much as it was a play on the Tigers. Lester has gotten rocked his last two outings against the Brewers and the White Sox. His underlying metrics on the year are ugly as well suggesting a real downturn in the former ace’s career. Against Lester, the Tigers couldn’t seem to get hits when they mattered, after reaching base nine times and only mustering one run.
The bullpens were a different story though, as the Tigers were able to rally against Rowan Wick and Ryan Tepera to take a 6-3 lead. The Tigers also got some help from catcher Wilson Contreras, who’s error ended up costing the Cubs big time. The Tigers scored seven runs total in this game, on EIGHTEEN hits. If not for the error, I’m even more concerned with how few runs the Tigers would have scored against some suspect pitching. That, on top of Buck Farmer almost blowing a four-run lead in the ninth, I was happy just for this thing to be over.
