Philadelphia Phillies at. Toronto Blue Jays
Pick: Phillies ML (-115)
You would think that a seven-inning game would help the Phillies? The Phillies threw top prospect Spencer Howard against the surging Blue Jays. To me, the Blue Jays streak hasn’t made much sense. Their offense is leading the way, without SS Bo Bichette and without much production from Vladimir Guerreo Jr. Yet, veterans Travis Shaw and Randall Grichuk are putting up big numbers. The Phillies had some run towards their side, in the hopes that we would avoid multiple innings out of their god-awful bullpen. Unfortunately for us, the Phillies removed Spencer Howard with just a 2-1 lead. Obviously that wasn’t enough and the Jays were able to walk it off in the ninth on a Gurriel single. Although the loss was disappointing it wasn’t even close to as disappointing as anyone who took Philly in game 2…
Hold up, wait a minute…

Final: 3-2 Blue Jays
New York Islanders vs. Washington Capitals
Pick: Islanders ML (-110)
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Islanders Barry Trotz might be hearing this from the Washington fans as he eliminated his former team in five games. Admittedly, I have not been looking to target these Islanders, as I thought that the Capitals would be able to stop them in their tracks due to the talent disparity. However, Washington has not been able to get it together as a team fast enough to even stand a chance against the Islanders. I might look to fade this squad in the next round, but at a PK price here, it was way too good not to watch the, defeat a lethargic Capitals team.
Final: 4-0 Islanders
Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames
Pick: Stars ML (-125)
Here was another series I was initially wrong about. I thought that the Flames would be able to score the puck and defend at a high enough rate to stop this Dallas team who didn’t look great in the restart. However, the flow of a series changes everything and you have to recognize when its time to switch your position. After initially going down 3-0 in the first period, the Stars put on an absolutely incredible show, scoring seven straight goals, en route to a 7-3 victory. Right-winger Denis Gurianov scored FOUR goals, with three of them in the 2nd period alone. Anton Khudobin has been solid in goal, but a huge challenge in Nate MacKinnon and the Avalanche await this Dallas team.
