Game Review

9-7-20

Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets

Pick: Phillies ML (-120)

Taking the Phillies for the full nine innings is not something I would wish upon my worst enemy. Yet, it is something I recommended to my loyal followers…

Anyway, The Phillies started former Met, Zach Wheeler, who has been one of the best #2 starters in the league this season. He went up against Mets prospect David Peterson, who has been good in 2020 from the surface level, although his peripherals suggest incoming regression. The Phillies F5 was certainly an option, but I wasn’t sure about taking on the extra juice against a Mets offense that is no slouch. The Phillies bullpen and sloppy defense made me eat those words, but Jean Segura bailed us out in the 10th inning. Talk about a sweat!

Final: 9-8 Phillies

Andrey Rublev vs. Matteo Berrettini

Pick: Rublev ML (+100)

The US Open has been surprisingly tough to bet for me thus far, as some unexpected outcomes have really hurt us. Although there was no bet, nothing was more unexpected that Novak Djokovic getting disqualified for accidentally hitting a lines-person. But that’s a different story…

Rublev and Berrettini have both been insane in the open, as neither of them has dropped a set coming into this matchup. In this spot, sharps recognized that the wrong player was favored. Rublev opened as a short dog and by the time this line closed it was about a PK. Berrettini won the first set but Rublev did an excellent job maintaining his composure and coming back to dominate the final three sets. Berrettini did not hit his first serve at a high enough clip to beat a player of Rublev’s caliber and Rublev took advantage, breaking Matteo four times in the match. This sets up a huge matchup for Rublev against Medvedev in the quarterfinals.

Final: 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 Rublev

BYU at Navy

Pick: Navy ML (+105)

Well this is awkward…

This one was a bit tough to tell where the sharp money was. It was certainly a big public play to BYU. In some of the early NCAAF games in 2020, player fatigue seems to be a notable problem. It is a non-technical analysis, but I feel like you can trust the service academies to guarantee the fitness of their athletes. Navy’s triple-option offense and athletic defense can often lead to a ball-dominant game and can benefit the under. Obviously, that was not the case in this particular game. I’m never really against fading the public if the analysis makes sense, you just have to recognize that sometimes you can get burned.

Final Score: 55-3 BYU
