Kansas City Royals at Chicago White Sox

Pick: Royals ML

Betting on a baseball game is an emotional journey. It takes some courage to bet on the Royals with that bullpen. It takes even more to bet on a left-handed pitcher against the White Sox. I expected the Royals to jump on White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez. However, they actually were able to score on White Sox otherwise elite bullpen. I happen to think that this pen is over-performing and the Royals got to them here.

Instead of trying to explain this debacle of a ninth inning, I’ll let Jomboy do it for you.

Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Angels

Pick: Mariners ML

This was another tough one. I’m starting to look for fade spots on Andrew Heaney. He has pitched decent in 2020 (4.62 ERA) but his expected stats are concerning. The Angels have played well in his starts, but his expected stats do not project him to be any better than an average pitcher.

While I do think this Heaney analysis will come to fruition soon, this game was not the case. Heaney was brilliant against the Mariners giving up only one run in 7.2 innings pitched. It felt like the Mariners left in starter Nick Margevicus in a batter or two too long. Although, in their defense, it’s not like the Mariners bullpen would have made anyone feel confident. The Mariners challenged closer Ty Buttrey in the ninth inning, scoring one on a Tim Lopes single. However, 1B Jose Marmalejos got himself thrown out on the basepaths trying to go first to third with one out. That blunder cost the Mariners their shot at completing a comeback.

Final: 3-2 Angels

Overall:

Daily Record: 0-5 (-5.00U)
Weekly Record: (+0.14U)
